Art Farmer — In Wrocław
Limited Edition Audiophile Double LP · 180g Vinyl · 45 RPM · DMM Mastering
Release date: 26 October 2024 · AC Records archival vinyl feature
A remarkable live jazz performance from one of the great masters of the flumpet—rediscovered, carefully remastered and presented in a premium audiophile vinyl edition.
A remarkable session, revisited
Recorded in May 1997 at Radio Wrocław Studios in Poland, Art Farmer — In Wrocław captures the legendary American jazz musician in an intimate, expressive performance. Farmer leads a quintet whose interplay brings together the sophistication of hard bop, the warmth of lyrical ballads and the energy of the blues.
Originally released on CD by EmArcy in 1998, the music returned to vinyl on 26 October 2024 in a newly remastered double-LP edition. The original performance was captured live in the studio, without cutting or editing, preserving the spontaneity and natural communication of the five players.
Farmer’s distinctive flumpet, combining qualities of the trumpet and flugelhorn, is supported by Piotr Baron’s tenor saxophone, Kuba Stankiewicz’s piano, Harvie S’s double bass and Adam Czerwiński’s drums. Extended solos give each performer room to develop their own ideas while sustaining the character of the ensemble.
Recording, remastering and the sound
The performance originates from an analogue multitrack recording made in May 1997. The documented production history also includes a DAT master at 16-bit/44.1 kHz. In May 2024, mastering engineer Piotr Łukaszewski undertook a new analogue remastering process at Custom34 Studio in Gdańsk, using Studer A80 and Studer A827 tape machines.
For the vinyl edition, Günter Pauler prepared the Direct Metal Mastering (DMM) cut at Pauler Acoustics in Northeim, Germany. Spreading the programme over four sides at 45 RPM provides generous room for musical dynamics, transient detail and instrumental textures.

Critical response
High Fidelity praised the recording’s musical and sonic qualities and awarded it the Big Red Button distinction. The edition offers collectors a chance to revisit an unusually candid late-career performance in an ambitious physical format.
Why this edition matters
Its significance rests in the unedited live-studio interaction, a carefully documented remastering process, four-sided 45 RPM presentation and two limited pressings. The two editions preserve the same eight-track programme, giving listeners a choice between classic black and crystal-clear vinyl.
